False-Negative F-FDG PET Results in Lymph Node Metastasis of A Patient with Follicular Thyroid Carcinoma: A Case Report and Literature Review

Tel: (886)4-22052121 ext. 1424/4002, Fax: (886)4-22023442 E-mail: [email protected] Positron emission tomography (PET) with fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) is a noninvasive functional imaging technique that provides information of the tissue metabolism with high accuracy in detecting various malignancies. F-FDG is not a cancer-specific agent, and false-positive results have been reported. However, false-negative results of F-FDG PET scan in diagnosis of malignant disease were rarely reported. We report a case of false-negative result of F-FDG PET scan in lymph node metastasis in a patient with follicular thyroid carcinoma.
